02-05-2017 Unusual/Extraordinary occurrence!

Whilst monitoring last week an EstuaryWatcher on the surf coast came across a team of paleontologists lead by Dr Erich Fitzgerald from Museums Victoria. They were exploring prehistoric whale fossils between 12 and 28 million years old! (Credit for photo 1 is John Broomfield).

Five days after the artificial estuary opening the water level sits at 0.54m AHD.  There is still water sitting on the floodplain.

Estuary closed.  AHD gauge at the estuary is reading 1.51m AHD.  Significant inundation of the roads and property.
