Unusual/Extraordinary occurrence! Four adult and one juvenile Hooded Plovers had run more than 100 metres along from their breeding ground to feed on the berm blocking the Barham River river mouth. The low elevation of the berm at the river mouth at this time meant that incoming waves dispersed over a wide area. As the waves recede the birds quickly go into feed. Hooded Plovers are listed as a vulnerable species. Phil Lawson |
