  • Mouth about 20-30m. wide at actual entrance narrowing around rocks.
  • High sand cliff on east side about 3m.
  • Very strong ,dark & smelly discharge to south & east meeting s/w waves & longshore drift (rough sea)

  • AHD large range during monitoring
  • Mouth wider than yesterday , sand cliffs at entrance 2.70m,
  • waves entering channel & estuary, channel surface covered with foam
  • Long shore drift bringing sand back to mouth, also colliding with waves from sw & outflow creating whirlpool
  • 1 Flounder -about 9cm

  • Sand building up at mouth & around rocks
  • Waves impacting on high sand east of mouth then travelling west
  • longshore drift very strong along foreshore & out to sea
  • Sand visiable in waves south of entrance
  • Only pale discharge around mouth
  • Sand bar & east side of estuary greatly exposed
  • No sign of any small fish around edge of estuary
  • Very cold wind

  • Waves over high sand build up at mouth & upstream rocks -No fresh water (dark) discharge but some salt return
  • Rough sea impacting on high sand east of entrance then travelling west entering channel with occaisional small waves into estuary
  • Strong longshore drift
  • Salt water about 50m upstream rocks
  • Waves in all directions causing whirlpool around & upstream rocks
  • Water has been very high in estuary at last hi tide
  • Dead petrel east side of channel, 7 Silver gulls & many Coots in estuary

  • Waves over a long berm, some return of salt water
  • Very rough sea has reduced sand build up east of mouth creating a very wide entrance
  • Longshoredrift out to sea & along foreshore
  • Fishermen reported that 48 large Salmon were caught off Ocean beach last weekend

  • Natural opening (possibly last night) dark discharge out to south & west with a lessor flow to east along foreshore, longshore drift active in this area
  • Channel wide & shallow, but narrow infront of rocks where the sand build up is visiable
  • Channel flowing along base of cliff
  • Beach(Ocean) is wide & slopping -sand build up east mouth has been leveled out
  • No sign of any fish (dead or alive) in estuary, also birds seen.
  • Water still visiable in very low areas & drains on flats between Princetown & upstream G5. Extensive waterlogging around G4
  • AHD at G6 0.81 @ 10:15

  • Pale discharge out around mouth & to east close to shore
  • 2 dead Pengins & 1 Shearwater included (8 Silver Gulls feeding in that area) (two curves forming )
  • Occaisional small wave down channel into estuary
  • Mouth very shallow & channel has become more narrow (low tide)

  • Discharge out but mostly salt return, entrance & channel shallow.
  • Very small waves entering channel & estuary
  • Beach wide with slight slope down to sea around mouth but steep sand cliffs have formed at east end (over 2m.)
  • Last hi tide high up on beach
  • Sandbar exposed in estuary
  • Over 20 Coots in estuary also Plover with orange band on right leg (Possibly Double Banded Plover ?)

  • Strong outflow of dark water over shallow area at mouth then flowing mainly to east
  • While outflow is quite strong small waves are entering channel
  • Waves in all directions at mouth with strong longshore drift to west & whirlpool in front of rocks
  • Channel flowing out main flow against cliff & through small gap between rocks. Sand build up on east side
  • Beach wide & slopping with highest point at mid beach where sand projects into ocean (eastern area scouring out)
  • Water has been high in estuary (hi tide/rough sea)
  • Immature Pacific Gull 1. feeding amongst seaweed & rubbish at mid beach

  • Mouth open, salt water entering & returning
  • Waves entering channel (green water almost to Tunnel) waves turning along south side of estuary toward east
  • Flow out is over shallow entrance
  • Strong longshore drift meeting outflow & south west swell creating whirlpool around rocks & entrance
  • Beach still has 2 distinct curves & sand projects further out to sea at mid beach
  • Water level in estuary is low
  • 12 Silver Gulls & 1 immature Pacific gull feeding at mid beach
